Kevin Sedatole – Director of Bands

Kevin Sedatole serves as director of bands, professor of music, and chair of the conducting area at the Michigan State University College of Music. Prior to joining MSU, he was director of bands and associate professor of conducting at Baylor University. Previous to his appointment at Baylor he served as associate director of bands at the University of Texas and director of the Longhorn Band, and as associate director of bands at the University of Michigan and Stephen F. Austin State University.

Sedatole is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, for which he serves as Southwestern Division vice president, the American Bandmasters Association, the Big 12 Band Directors’ Association, the Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association, the Texas Music Educators Association, and the Texas Bandmasters Association.

David Thornton – Director of the Spartan Marching Band

David Thornton joined the faculty at Michigan State University’s College of Music as assistant director of bands in 2015 and was appointed Director of the Spartan Marching Band in 2017. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in wind conducting at Michigan State University where he served an active role teaching and assisting with all aspects of the band program. Prior to coming to MSU, Thornton taught in the state of Florida where he was the assistant director of bands at Eau Gallie High School (Melbourne) and most recently the director of bands at Leon High School (Tallahassee).

A native of Springfield, Virginia, Thornton received his Master’s of Music degree in wind conducting from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Music in clarinet performance from Florida State University. He has professional affiliations with the Michigan Music Educators Association, Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, Florida Music Educators Association, Florida Bandmasters Association, and the College Band Directors National Association.

Simon Holoweiko – Associate Director of the Spartan Marching Band

Simon Holoweiko is the Interim Assistant Director of Bands and Associate Director of the Spartan Marching Band at Michigan State University. In addition to his position with the marching band, Holoweiko conducts the MSU Concert Band, co-directs the Spartan Youth Wind Symphony, assists with Spartan Brass, and teaches courses in the College of Music.

Simon recently completed his Master of Music degree in Wind Conducting at Columbus State University as a student of Dr. Jamie L. Nix where he guest conducted the CSU Wind Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, directed the CSU Cougar Pep Band, and administrated the annual CSU Conductors Workshop. Prior to his Master’s degree, Holoweiko received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Michigan State University and taught in the Florida public schools where was the Director of Bands at Martin County High School (Stuart).
